This is one of the best explanations of the Lunar Race that I agree with. Our race to the moon was both heroic and political.
It galvanized our country with the excitement of space travel and defended our (self) image of superiority of nation.
Whether we need to go there or not, some of the greatest minds in the country developed ways to safely send our countrymen across space to a place that no one had ever been.
